I was offered a complimentary sign making class. All opinions are my own.

I took a Painting with a Twist class about a year ago with a few friends & it was not very fun for me. I am not very artistic free-handed & I threw my painting away after I got home.

That is certainly not the case with The Barn Antiques in Northville . I had a wonderful afternoon with Danielle from A Sprinkle of Joy, Rachel from Redesigning Happiness, & Justina from Punk Rock Cat Lady. We brought some snacks to share & we had a nice afternoon of blog chatting & meeting each other finally in real life (well, except Rachel as I knew & loved her quite well already before!).

Firstly let me tell you that the store front itself is really cute. So many seasonal & rustic decorations, antiques, & other fun items like the bracelet I bought that is fashioned from an old license plate!

Earlier in the week before our class I picked my background color & stencil on their website so it could be prepped & the paint would be dry before my class. There were so many signs I could have chosen for the fall & winter season but I chose the simple “Thankful” sign so I can hang it more year-round to commemorate our day.

Our stencils were made of vinyl cutouts ahead of the class so we needed to “weed out” the extras in the middle of our design. Here is a picture of Danielle & Rachel weeding their stencils to paint over.

Once that was done we flipped it over & secured it to our board with special tape.

& then a little bit of dabbing paint to make thin coats to allow easy drying & rustic looks.

See? Easy enough even for this not-so-good artist/free hand painter! Here is video of me pulling off the stencil for the big reveal!

We got finished off with a hook on the back & a coat of polyurethane. I absolutely LOVE how mine finished! I like the soft colors & how it will match my bathroom colors & girl-power theme.

All of our signs are beautiful!

This is a short class & would be fun for all kinds of get-togethers. Bridal parties, birthday parties, family reunions, or even just to drop in for yourself! Now is a great time to make signs for your home for holiday decorating or even gifts.

The Barn is right near the Northville/Novi border near the intersection of 8 Mile & Beck Roads (easy to reach from I-696/I-96/I-275).

Check out all of the class schedules (or even schedule your own private party class) at their website here.

& Stay tuned to their Facebook page for events, promotions, Sneak Peaks, & more!
